    Alot of Pre war K98s have ID stamps all over the metal and wood. There is usually a number on the inside of the handguard or stock. These should match the other ID numbers. If it is a refinish with different wood there will be number differences. I have a k98 that was scrubbed by the Czechs and this is the case. They wrote a new serial number in pencil on the stock and handguard, but the stampe numbers did not match. A pre war k98 should have numbers inside, but the later war ones do not always have them. Hope this helps
