When did remington stop putting the white diamond on the bottom of the stock? Can you tell how old a 1100 is by the letters on the barrel using the word blackpowder?
    Thanks

Hello, I have used a product called RB 17 with very good
results. I have removed rust from several rifles and it is
also an excellant bore cleaner. It is biodegradable and does
not have any chemical smell (makes my wife happy) when used
indoors. I use 0000 steel wool with it to remove rust from blued
guns with no harm to finish. Cleaning directions on bottle. It
    comes in a 4oz. and 16oz.www.sinclairintl.com
5.95 and 15.75. I found some at a local gunsmith for 4.00. He
said he used it for alot of his cleaning.
I have had good results using Breakfee CLP first to break
up the heavy rust and then the RB 17 and 0000 steel wool. This will
remove all oil from the metal, so don't forget to reoil gun inbetween
cleaning sessions. I'm not an expert by any means, but this stuff
    works for me.

Great instructions for removing rust from a blued steel gun. But....doesn't the 1100 have an aluminum alloy receiver?

I'm not sure about the 1100 reciever, alum. or steel?
I will leave that ? up to a higher authority. My old 1100
12 ga. is steel, but the LT-20 could be alum. Sorry I can't
    help with that question.
