Hello fitting grips on a colt single action is an ART just be glad your replacements are TOO large. I mount the grips and then with a very sharp scribe mark them by letting the scribe rest on the grip frame . Remove and with a sanding block take off Small amounts and then install to check . Repete many times and then polish with BRASSO when you get final size correct.

All Colt-brand SAA grips sold as parts are oversized; that's because there are dimensional variations in the frames of the guns.

But, are these optional grips? Standard 3rd gen grips are hard rubber & some models have walnut. Some of the Colt parts grips are plastic, like the pearl-lite.

I'm just wondering if both of you are describing the same material. Are we talking about the black grips with the prancing horse?
