Looking for history & fotos CZ 47 9mm
Many years ago, while I was working for the government in a very remote and dangerous place in South America, I owned and carried in my Jeep a 9 mm sub-machine gun. I have a picture of it, but I sold the arm to a collector before I returned to the U.S. I didn't want the hassle of getting an import license and permit.
Anyway, I am looking for someone who might have a book that describes this gun. I have several machine gun books in my library, but nothing in them that looks like this firearm. Someone told me once they thought it was made by #268;esk? zbrojovka a.s. known as CZ I recently sent a letter to them as their web site lists a CZ47, but no picture. If you think you can help, I can send you a picture of the gun I used to own.
It has a wood rifle type stock, a metal slide bracket a long the side of the stock, a stick type magazine, short barrel that screws on and it was light and simple. I cut down a small tree with it once, really neat and I used it for some amazon jungle hunting trips.
I was told by the South American army officer who sold me the gun, that this was a standard firearm for civilian and military guards. It doesn't look exactly like the German machine pistols of WWII, but perhaps it was derived from them. Too bad I didn't research this gun at the time.

I found a pen & ink sketch of one in my older reference, ( 1958 ). With the wooden stock and tapered barrel it somewhat resembles the Beretta Model 38/42. The feature that distinguishes it from other blowback submachine guns is that the barrel breech and magazine may be rotated 90 degrees, i.e. the magazine can be vertical like the one in the Beretta or horizontal like the Sten.

Wow, thanks for the info and it is interesting that you guys can identify the weapon just from my description and with out seeing my fotograph. I will search for Nelson's book and also take a look at the arm that CZ replaced the CZ47 with.
I bought the CZ in Bolivia and it had their armory's stamp on the receiver. So if they were sold to Brazil, perhaps Bolivia bought them cheap from Brazil as they were being phased out by Brazil. Although it was a clean gun, it showed years of use. Very interesting. The officer who sold it to me was a member of the president's private militia, his army lost the civil war and he was "heading for the hills" and selling anything he could.
