FFL is it out of line

Is it out of line to ask a seller for his ffl
This will help if I need to increase my bid.
on a gun I'm buying. This particular man is selling a gun
on gunbroker but I need more information on the quality of the
gun I'm biding on.[:)]

    An FFL allow us to ship/transfer firearms through interstate commerce and nothing more. It is NOT a business license nor does it provide any information about the dealer, his business activites (other than firearms dealer, pawn broker, importer, or manufacturer), or his inventory. On the face of his FFL you get his name, address and mailing address and thats it!

    An ffl has no reason to give you a copy of his license. It will not tell you anything.

    The seller is not an FFL holder but has to go though one to sell his
    rifle. I'm asking the seller for the FFL name and number so I can ask
    him for information on the gun.

    I am not quite sure what you are asking. Why do you need to ask his ffl a question about the gun, or can't the seller answer your questions?

    I'm like the rest,I don't understand..the seller does not have to go through a FFL to sell his rifle.but even if he did that does not mean the ffl would know anything at all about the rifle all he is going to do is ship it to your ffl.

    Perhaps the seller has chosen to ship guns through an FFL. Some choose to do so in today's CYA society. Is the FFL holding a gun for him for some reason? If not, the seller is most likely just paying the license holder a fee to ship the gun (which the FFL holder probably has never seen), just as you will do to receive it.

    The FFL will not state the condition of the rifle nor will it make the seller honest. You need to ask the seller these questions. The FFL has no bearing on condition or quility of the firearm he is selling.

    I think I understand the confusion here.
    You're in California and need to do a Private Party Transfer from the seller to you, thus his need of a FFL.
    Only one of you needs an FFL.
    You can do it thru yours or his.

    I'm assuming the seller is also in California.

    You should tell these people why any FFL could answer a question that the seller can't.
