Range Finders??

What is the difference between a range finder for golf and the ones used for hunting? There is a pretty big price difference. Also any suggestions on less expensive range finders that would be good for bow hunting? Thanks

    You get what you pay for when it comes to optics. Also some range finders will have difficulty picking up the range on reflective targets, the higher end ones you dont have this problem with. A good low cost range finder is Bushnell.

    I'm not a cow pasture pool shooter, but some friends of mine that while away their days with such activitgies tell me that the golf range finders are subject to rules of the game- something about you're not supposed tgo have them in tournament play, and for regular use, they aren't supposed to be "good", whereas the ones for hunting are not limited by any such considerations, and are as good as the manufacturer can make them for the price. I think the next cheat method of determining how far a hole is from the ball will be sneaking GPS units on the course. If they cheat, why do the call it a game?

    There's GPS on some of the carts already at your "fancy" golf clubs.
    I've never seen the need for one hunting, of course my freezer is empty [V] [:)]

    the golf ones just have some stupid reticle that you use, they suck, trust me. The ones for hunting/shooting are laser rangefinders, and they have a digital readout that tells you the distance... like an LCD screen kind of.

    well.. thats how most of the ones I've seen are.

    I'd love a good range finder.. or a mil-dot scope

    if you want one for bow hunting then buy want that is made just for that use , these are set up with very low magnification and a wide flied of view, in other words easy to find your target at close range ,
    the longer range models (ie 800 or 1000 yards ) are higher magnifications usually 4x or more and have very narrow view of field up close ,,,,, very hard to pick up a deer at 30 yards in the bush with one of these

    Cabela's has a good selection to look at from cheap to not so affordable.I've got a Bushnell compact 800 that I really like and it was under $300.

    I just picked up a brand new in the box Bushnell Camo Scout rangefinder on eBay for $224.25 total w/ S&H (retails @ Cabela's for $269.99). It is a sweet little tool, and when I mean little I mean ultra-compact (great for bowhunting). Fits vertically in the palm of your hand and is very easy to function. It has a max reflective reading distance of 700yds, and I have had mine read up to 693yds. It also boasts a 10yd min. distance reading making it ideal for bowhunters. It has three modes; scan, zip, and rain mode. I would recommend this rangefinder to anyone, depending on the range you plan on using it for. Hope this helps.[;)]
