What is this?
I have just got a bolt action rifle. It is marked as follows: U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1899. So it is not an 03 and not a 98. Just what the heck have I got here?

Well, expert I'm not, but I'll give you an educated opinion. RG = cheap, fragile, sub par materials and workmanship. Fine as long as it works but not one to trust your life with. Unless it is something minor, like the obvious lack of grip screws, it may (probably) is not worth fixing. Only my 2 cents.....

Believe it or not, if you ever open that sucker up, you'll find that those electrical tape grips are the best part of the gun! [:D]
Seriously, as others have said, RGs were very low quality guns. Even in good working order, their best use is as a paperweight.0 -
Personally I would have used duct tape to enhance it's appearence. On the serious side I have turned down good friends that have brought me crap like that.

The RG/Rohm is a dangerous piece of crap, take heed to what the previous posters have told you. "BUT" if you friend needs it for self-defense, not for robbing a 7/11, Numrich has parts. Click on this link.
