Loading Lil'Gun in 12 gauge Shotgun

I've got gobs of Hodgdon Lil'Gun powder. Does anyone have any experience using it to load 12-gauge shotgun? I know it was designed for .410 and that it works well in magnum pistol cartridges. It has the same burn rate as Alliant STEEL, which is commonly used with 12 gauge. Are the data interchangeable? Regards, AI user.

    i was always taught that large flake powder is best used in large ga and small grainular powder is best used in small ga..

    If L'il Gun isn't listed for 12 gauge loads in the manuals, there are probably some very, very good reasons for not doing so. You would be taking things in your own hands and risking some valuable things for just convenience of using some powder.......like your gun, hands, eyesight. Peak pressures on most 12 gauge loads top out much lower than even a .38 special, and this powder is commonly used for .357 mag. and 10mm. Take it to a range or gun show. If the canisters are still sealed, maybe someone will swap some 700x or Red Dot, pound for pound.

    it involves more than equal burn rates, you need to consider its volume too. to equal a similar burn rate may require less area. even if you did find a similar load, the volume will change and the wad seat depth will change. again, i say, unless there are some laods out there confirmed by the company, id say , use it for what it was intended. i know you hoping we might know a load, but none of my books show fine grain powder in 12g's loads.

    I was never one to waste things but I would throw it away before I would make a load that wasn't in a book.My guns are not top of the line but I wouldn't risk damaging the gun or myself.

    This is the response to this question from Hodgdon Powder Company..."Lil' Gun was designed for use in the 410 Shotgun, some of the small rifle cartridges and magnum pistol loads.
