whats the diference

I just bought a rem 306 woodsmaster the gun is in good shape but some one tried to reblue it. all the blueing has been stripped. I was thinking about having it parkerized but dont know the advantages or disadvantages of this or blueing

    306? Would that be a 760? Are we talking semi-auto rifle? Doesn't really matter what it is. Parkerizing is less attractive than bluing, but is twice as durable and rust resistant. [:D]

    i'm guessing 30-06, since it wouldn't be a collector an U would use it for hunting,i would park it, besides 'less glare' in the woods

    Buy your self some of the new spray on baking finishes, or the textured bed paint, and have a ball creating your own (CAMO) pattern on it.
    Cheap and the weather don't get to it.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    I'm no expert, but my son is. He works in a gov't certified plate shop Worked his way from the floor to the office so he knows his way around the place) and says that parkerizing (phosphating( is a poor choice and that he doesn't understand why the gov't insists on it.

    I think it is because it is a flat finish. It's corrosion resistance comes from its ability to retain oil.

    I thank you, and my son thanks you in absentia. He's the expert. You should see the bluing job he did on an old CVA Hawken rifle I gave him back when he was first starting at the plate shop. Flawless...and rustless. We're talking almost 20 years.

    There are numerous industrial finishes that are far more durable than either bluing or phosphate. Many of the pistol manufacturers now offer them as standard equipment. Check out the "services" section of Shotgun News or Gun List, or browse the net.
