Rem. 700 bolt
I would appreciate any good tips on how to take the bolt of a rem. 700 appart for cleaning.

Best Tip:
Go to either Brownell's or Sinclair's website and order a disassembly tool, they come with instructions.0 -
on the bottom of your bolt(handle end)is a V notch .Hook that notch on your boot lace, pull hard, and twist counter clockwise it will unscrew. Easy to do,and you wont hurt it.Dont forget to lube your threads too before assembly
Teach them young ! Teach them often !

I'm not sure on the newer ones with the longer bolt sleeve, but on the older ones, all one needed to do was put the sear up against the edge of a solid wood surface (the corner of the loading bench, for example), with one hand push the body of the bolt, compressing the firing pin spring, and causing more of the firing pin to appear out the back of the sleeve. With about a quarter inch of travel, the rear cap of the firing pin was exposed, showing the shoulder and the pin part of the firing pin. With your free hand slide a dime in between the firing pin cap and the bolt sleeve. Release pressure on the sear and the pin will move forward against the dime. The firing pin will now be held back so you can unscrew the sleeve and firing pin from the bolt body. Reverse is much easier. Get things the way you want then, put a little pressure on the sear, slide the dime out, let the sear return to rest in the cocked notch position. Simple in concept- challenging in execution. 0 -
