Handgun Suppressors/Silencers Help.

Hi everyone, This site seems to be the best place with extensive information. Was looking to get some feedback from people who own, sell, or use silencers. I am currently in the process of picking up my new Glock 45mm model 21. And looking to add a suppressor to it. I don't know much about the suppressor in general and was needing help in this area. I also had a few questions, ive seem to have located a few that will work with the Glock, yet the length is different. Why dose the length matter? What dose it do (the length)? Second there are quite a few models and different manufactor's. Which is preferred and why? I would like to keep silence as the highest priority. Any information, suggestions, and help would be great.

Any models or prices will also help.

    The Glock model 21 is a 45 auto, not a 9mm. Which are you getting?

    Thanks for that, missed it. I was searching and reading past posts regarding the same information. I was reading a post regarding a persons location and laws, etc. I've already looked up and checked, it is legal to have a silencer in Tx. Just wanted to note this before this came up later in the posts.

    You are wise to do research before you do anything else.

    The size, shape, & quality of materials used is determined by the manufacturer. The noise reduction & durability of any suppressor is determined by the buyers requirements; since most are government agencies, they usually look for high quality. All suppressors made in this country are designed by engineers. A lot of money is spent on development & testing; with different guns & different theories, engineers will generally come up with different sizes & shapes for their products.

    Most civilians will find that handgun suppressors are a waste of money. There are several problems with them that make them more trouble than they are worth. For starters, you will need to replace the barrel with one that has threads on the end. And, you won't be able to aim it without adding an optical sight (the suppressor will obscure the factory sights). Then, you will find that the gun must be tuned by altering the recoil spring, as most will not function reliably due to changes in the recoil impulse. Finally, even though the noise of the gun will be reduced, it will be nowhere near "silent".

    But, hey, it's your $1,000; if this sounds like fun to you, go ahead.

    Welcome to the Forums, and yes you can pick up some
    useful information here.
    Just don't get to "addicted" to GB, or if they crash again
    you'll have to go through "withdrawal" like the rest of
    us had to do recently.
    Regarding suppressors.
    I own 4 at present and plan to purchase two more this spring.
    All 4 are GemTech and I highly recommend them, because of their
    workmanship and because of Phil (Dr.) Dater (Owner) of Company is one
    of very few CEO's that'll answer your questions or concerns himself.
    Two of my suppressors I use pretty much on full auto weapons and
    two on semi-auto pistols (9mm and 22LR).
    I have found that when it comes to Class III ownership, I get as
    much enjoyment out of suppressors as I do from the full auto weapons.
    I would recommend that you buy the best and this will mean the most
    expensive suppressor you can afford.
    Because whether it's a $200 suppressor or A $1,000 "can" the stamp is
    going to still cost $200 and you might as well spend your time
    waiting, for the best and not just any suppressor.
    Study what you can, buy the best technology you can for the day and
    you won't want to upgrade right away.

    Thanks Spring for the informaion. I did check out the website for GemTech, I liked what I saw. I will still be hopeing to gather more information from the board users on this topic. I would rather use Gemtech, then to make my selection from a random manufactor. In hopes that it works well. Im not concerned with the price as a factor, more so the quality and the decibels. If the site needs help on the site then let me know if you have problems. I own a few servers and space >:).
