how do you remove the rear sight on a Marlin 1894?

Apparently, it has to come off for my scope base to fit (and yes, it appears to be the right base). I've never had to remove a sight before, so can anyone tell me how it's done? Thanks.

  Most Marlin sights are mounted in a dovetail cut in the barrel, to remove use an aluminum "drift" (piece of an old cleaning rod will work great) to drift the sight out of the slot, usually the sights are installed from the right side of the cut, so place the drift against the left side and strike carefully with a brass or taped steel hammer, may require several strikes to free the sight but it will drift out.

  you shouldn't have to remove the sight for the scope mount base to clear but , you may have to remove it to keep the scope from hitting the sight
  
  I have never seen a base go that far forward, so if you do remove it just take the elevator out of the sight first and then do what jody said
