Stevens Model 24 Rear Sight
I have found a Model 24 with the reciever barrel selector, .22/.410. The rear sight dovetail is ruined. How should I mount another rear sight on this gun?
Thanks, Leonard.

if you can find an old receiver sight by lyman or redfield youll be in fine shape. Williams also makes one currently but not as nice as the oldies. 0 -
leo, how is it ruined? Any damage or deformity can be corrected by a gunsmith.

The dovetail edges that the sight would slide under are gone, the channel has straight walls. 0 -
If your 24 has a scope groove, there are peep sights made that will work on it. 0 -
I think the mdl 24 has the worst rear sight dovetail ever designed.Very shallow and very easy to damage.I once owned aone with the side selector that was mint except the rear sight was missing and the dovetail was onlyvery slightly buggered.I bought 3 different rear sights, filed the dovetail, and NEVER could get one to fit correctly. Finally i epoxied one in place and sold the gun. 0 -
This 24 is like the one Old Single Shots is talking about, very thin metal on the dovetail. The bluing looks really good & the wood is good also. I'd like to repair & keep this gun. Epoxy might work. 0 -
I have one exactly like you have. I used a triangular file to open up the slot to the bigger sight, Sighted in the rifle and them put a couple drops of lock-tite under it to hold it in place as it wanted to move on me.
