M1a1?

Hi, I'm putting a scope on a Springfield M1a1 with a Springfield 3rd gen. mount. The scope is a 30mm tube and a 56mm objective. What height rings should I use?

    I had one inch one on my m1a and got it to work with low rings since the mount sits so high on the reciever though the bell was a little close so medium would be a better choice

    I have to assume you mean M1A as M1A1 is the Thomson MG.

    It depends on whether or not you want to use the original sights with the scope mounted. Bell gets in the way with low rings.

    Blckhrn, I'd think he means a Springfield M1A1 .308

    I've got a Springfield Armory factory mount - with 2 screw
    down side knobs. I had a 1 screw down for a while and it
    actually broke off. It's a 1" mount and works very well.

    I'd like to add that sight through rings would have helped greatly when I sighted in the scope on my (don't laugh) Federal Ordinance M1A. It came with a Gen 2 type alloy mount and with the windage and elevation knobs set at nominal (1/2 of lock to lock)I found it was about 4 feet left at 50 yards. I had no way of bore sighting as it isn't a bolt gun and the sights would have been helpful. Wound up building a rest, taking off the scope and rings and sighting it that way, then remounting the scope and tweaking the mount to the right and shimming under the dovetail for most of my elevation. True nightmare, I hope SA is better with their mount and receiver than the crap I have.

    Well, it works now but if I remove the mount I have to calibrate it with calipers or depth guage. .130" on the right side if memory serves. I have it scribed into the mount.

    Someone should design a better mount. Mine has the dovetail that fits where the stripper guide goes, the side screw and a front jack screw. The receiver isn't really set up for any side to side adjustments, or is the mount I have.
