Dry Fire Practice in a Bolt Gun?

Can I used a spent casing with no bullet in it as a SNAP CAP in my bolt?

  You can....but it won't last very long...! I'd recommend purchasing a Snap Cap if you really think you need to Dry Fire your rifle....

  Most of the on-line merchants, ( Brownells, Midway, etc ) carry "A-Zoom Snap Caps" their made of metal, not plastic, ( the plastic ones self destruct ) and very durable.
  
  If you plan on doing a considerable amount of dry fireing there the way to go. Speaking from experience, I broke my share of fireing pins by not using snap caps.

  I just took a case, seated a bullet with no primer for feeding purposes (or powder either) and filled in the primer hole with rubber cement.

  I haven't seen any damage yet, but can't promise that none would ever result; all I can say is in my 98k, 1903 Springfield, and 9mm Luger, I haven't seen problems. I have heard of others doing such as well.

  You can also use a cut to fit the primer pocket pencil
  erasure or Tub/Tile caulk/silicone all will work.

  I use RTV silicone auto gasket material(I like the red stuff-the colr really stands out) to make snap caps. I have mny thousands of shots on mine with no signs of failure to the gun or caps.
