Any feedback on an Armalite AR 18?

I have been interested in buying an AR15 but recently noticed the AR18. From the specs I don't see many differences at all. They also look very similiar.

Can anyone shed some light on the differences? The 18 is about 150.00 cheaper too.

    I think he is refering to the ar180b


    I own one.....get an ar15, you will be happier. It is a better made gun than the srmalite 180b.

    so you think the 15 is worth the 150-200 more over the 18? I'm just going to use it to play around with but do want something that is going to be accurate

    don't know where you are but in the US a transferrable AR18 is about $6000. AR15s are quite a bit less...

    The semi auto version of the AR18 is the AR180. Armalite has recently come out with the AR180B. The orignial AR18/180 is a very good rifle. The AR180 was produced by Armalite in Costa Mesa, CA. They sold the rights to produce the rifle to Sterling in England and HOWA in Japan. There were more Sterling rifles made than Costa Mesa and HOWA. The HOWA rifle is a better quality than the Sterling. The Rife is very well built and will last, as it already has for a very long time. It does not have the combat heritage as the M16 but do not let that stop you from checking it out. Mark is in deed correct in his posting. If the AR18/180 was adobted by a major military it would have improved across the years as the M16 has. My 2 cents [8D]

    The way I read Marks posting may be just a bit different from your interpretation, I think... I have owned AR18s and AR180s and have thought of the quality as being just awful... would they have improved over the years if a major player adopted them? Most likely, but the latest encarnation from Armalite (the 180b) is just as big a POS as the original IMO.

    vicg1: I have one of each of the AR180's and the Howa is the best of the 3. I find all of them to be a very good rifle with the Sterling being the least desierable. I do not take them out in combat mode but at 300 yards the are all a good shooter. Easy to clean and ride well in my truck. I have had very few failure to feed or eject and when i have it has been my fault. I do not own an AR18 but I have shoot one. I like it alot also. Just do not have an extra $6000.00 to drop on one. [8D]

    Hey Mark,
    If you got them for free through the US Military Assistance Program, you would prefer it.

    The AR-18 is just a better design than the 15. It is more akin to the AK series of weapons in design and everyone know about their reliability.
    Kinda walking about with our ass on our shoulders a bit aren't we?
