Walther p5

Is anyone importing these guns still? I know they are still made in Germany but I dont see them around much. I would like to get one soon and dont know where to look for a new one.

    Saw one of these at the gunshop. Any opinions on this gun. I like the sight picture, but I really know little about this gun.

    The reason you don't see too many around is the high price. So much more is available that has a larger caliber or a larger magazine capacity. I wouldn't mind having one either, but I am just unwilling to pay $650 to $800 for a eight shot 9mm pistol. If you are interested there are a couple listed on Gunbroker.com

    Maybe I will get one to round out the Walther collection one day, after I get a TPH

    After 50 years and Walther could not improve on the mechanics of the P.38, they simply changed the styling.
    Part for part, the P5 is the P.38 with the slide enclosing the barrel.
    They are quite a bit prettier than the P.38. If you can find the anneversary model, get that one. Very pretty.

    Alot of people havent mproved on the P38s locking system. Beretta uses it in all their guns, and when Walther tried something different in the P88 they got beat by 50 year old concept. Its true that the P5 has a heel catch and that it is just the final evolution of the P38 but the p38 and hence the p5 is one of the clasic designs of all time and the P5 in my opinion deserves alot more respect. You dont need 15 shots in a self defense gun if you are a good shot. I have a P38 made in 61 and my only wish is that it was a steel framed weapon. I like a heavier gun for the reduced recoil and flip.
