Can you use, Spray Carb Cleaner on guns?
A friend just asked me this... Will spray carb cleaner work on guns?
Carb cleaner works on brass, it will not hurt rubber, I dont think it will hurt plastic?? It is a lot cheaper than the cans of gun cleaner.... [?]

I had a friend tell me about this years ago. It works just fine. Never had any problem with it.

Be very careful not to get it on the stock. It will probably remove most finishes.

I've used it for years with no negative results. It's great for getting that last bit of cosmaline out of nooks and crannies. Be sure to oil it down as soon as the cleaner evaporates, as the metal will flash rust. This only takes a short time in humid conditions. And right, keep it away from the wood. It can leave some plastics with a dull looking finish.

should be fine, just make sure to lube everything up afterwards.. another good product for really getting the grime off parts like bolts and extractors, is Sea Foam Deep Creep, I soaked my SAR-1 bolt in that thing overnite, all kinds of little brown chunkies were floating.. [:D]

I have been using BRAKE cleaner in an aerosol can for years. It works best cleaning brass chips (off of bolt face extractor)and powder residue from bolt assemblies.
I use it on my bore by shooting a couple of blasts up the bore from the breech end then running the brush right after, followed up by cleaning the brush with the brake cleaner then using hoppes#9 up the bore again using the brush, swabbing clean then followed with a mop lightly oiled.
Got some on my black rifle stock one time but it dried up with no tell tale sign.0 -
good cleaner but bad bad on plastics or hard rubber type grips & baking enamel type finishes...i use a lot of ether (starting fluid) that wont damage in that fashion 0 -
BE CAREFUL! If you decide to use any of the previously mentioned magic potions, i.e. Brake Cleaner, Carb Cleaner, Starting Fluid (Ether). There toxic and or extremely flammable, or both. Use outdoors, never inside near a open flame, i.e. closed garage with water heater. My 2 cents.

GM Top Engine Cleaner (TEC) is used by quite a few benchrest competitors. It is supposedly one of the absolute BEST carbon/powder fouling removers anywhere.
