S&W Mod. 24
Can anybody tell me what the latest value of this
revolver is from poor to excellent? It is a 4 inch
target hammer,trigger and stocks. My books are way
out of date.

Hmmmm ... don't know what book your lookin' at "LL", but the Model 24 goes for a mite bit more than your reference says.
Below value, etc. is "Borrowed" from the 24th edition of the Blue Book and I know from first hand observations here in Northern Ohio that a 24 in 95%+/- condition went for $1,000 at a recent gun show. I wanted it bad, choked on the price at first and when I went back to lay down the money about 45 minutes later it was gone .......
24's are kinda like "Colts" they seem to create their own market, and that market is certainly above the books.

In the Standard Catalog ofr Smith & Wesson (Second Edition) the Model 24, 24-1 and 24-2 are NIB $2,500, EXC $1,200, VG $600, GOOD $300, FAIR $200, POOR $150. The Model 24-3 (reintroduced in 1983) NIB $450, EXC $360, VG $300, GOOD $225, FAIR $190, POOR $150. 0 -
Cont man.. My reference is the "25th" Edition of the Blue Book page 1394.
The figures I quoted are for the model 24-3 since PDF.44 said he had a model 24 with a 4" barrel.
He did not mention anything about it being the .44 Hand ejector fourth model - 1950 target, and since the Hand Ejector model with a 4" barrel is considered "rare" he likely has the model I listed values for.
If PDF has the early hand ejector model he can refer to your quote from the Blue Book for values, however since he has a 4" barreled version it is likely a model 24-3 for which I listed the current values.

PDF.44 said it was made in the early 50's. I believe that around the 80's S&W reintroduced the Mdl 24 this might have been the 24-3.
If I could find a 1950 version Mdl 24 at 90% for $375 I would buy all I could find.

Since you have narrowed it down, you can refer to the estimates that Contender man listed for the 1950 target model.
You have a rare gun, I would hold onto it.

Is there a model number actually stamped in the yoke. If it says 24, 24-1 or 24-2 it was made after 1956. If there is no model number, it is probably a .44 Hand Ejector Fourth Model Target (Pre-Model 24). The Fourth Model Target was introduced in 1950 and was changed to the Model 24 in 1957. Model 24 was 1957 to 1960. Model 24-1 was 1960 - 1961. The Model 24-2 was 1961 to 1967. The Model 24-2 was discontinued in 1967. Model 24-3 was reintroduced in 1983. 0 -
I know this is a little off subject but if you're looking for a new one , S&W is making a run on these for Thunder Ranch, 4" barrel , blued, fixed sights , [:D] 0
