AK 47 and AK 74 need info please

Would someone tell me how the AK 47 and the AK 74 differ.

I know they shoot different calibers.

AK-47 shoots 7.62x39
AK-74 shoots 5.45x39

I don't what other differences there are.

i'm not familiar with the 5.45x39 what caliber would that be comparable to?

The Russians liked the performance of the 5.56x45 (.223) so coppied it with the 5.45x39. Hot little cartridge that spalls quicker than the .223.

Current Russian Miltary Cartridge, 5.45 x 39, came into use during the 1970's. Similar dimensionally and ballistically to our 223, 5.56 x 45 cartridge, ( although not interchangable ). The projectile of the 5.45 x 39 is much more effective for anti-personnel use because it's construction.

thank you all. based on the information here i think i would prefere the ak 47 if i'm not mistaken that is closer to our 30/30 round. Well thanks again, Calamitywood
