Browning Rifle Stocks
I purchased a browning A-bolt hunter last year and used the rife for deer hunting last fall. I love the rifle but the finish on the walnnt stock leaves a lot to be desired. I've never owned a rifle or shotgun with a stock that scratches so easily. Has anyone tried refinishing one of Browning's newer model rifle stocks or experienced similar problems?

You own a hunting rifle! Those nasty rocks and trees sometimes just jump out at you. My old pre 64 Model 70's look like they have been through several wars. At first you are alarmed but get over it. There are many more dings and bruises that your stock will attract.
I apply a paste wax to the stock-sorta helps.
Browning, I believe, still uses a poly finish. IMHO, just live with
the scratches.

A hunting rifle is a tool. I like my high gloss a-bolt to look nice, but it is still just a tool. They are character marks.

That's why I sold my Ruger m77mkII,which had a very nice wood stock before I got it boogered up and got n A-bolt Stalker.Now I don't worry about it.

You guys are missing the mark.[B)]I'm not going to throw the thing away because it's scratched.Just want to know if anyone has ever refinished one of these stocks? Wondering what type of wood I'll find under the finish.

I have and its not easy. I used a spray on stripper it finally cleaned off but it took some doing. underneath was a ok grade of walnut did some light sanding and some english walnut stain and three coats of spray on laquer it was beautiful and has lasted alot longer than the original. good luck.
