Colt 1911-A1 US Army
I'm not new to the gun game but this gun baffel's me. There seems to be so many variations. I'm not sure how to identify what exactly I have. Is there a kind hearted someone out there that can help me? I would like to sell this gun but, I'm afraid to sell it until I positively identify it. The serial # is 2248017, has Brit Gov 1952 on the side and fully engraved, wood grips. Pictures available. Thanks!

I have a Colt 1911-A1 serial # 2248017. Brit Gov 1952 on the side. Someone did an incredible engraving job to the pistol. How the heck do I value this gun for sale? I can't seem to identify this pistol exactly in my Blue book. I can send pictures. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff0 -
Per the serial number, your pistol was made in 1944 for the US military. It should be in standard 1911A1 configuration with a parkerized finish.
The "Brit Gov 1952" marking seems to suggest use in England during or after the Second World War?
Needless to say the pistol didn't leave the factory engraved and therefore the finish is not original.
My two cents is, since it's not factory original the value would be based on it's cosmetic condition. Engraving doesn't mean squat, I've seen plenty guns butchered by so-called "Engraving".

Sadly, rufe-snow is completely correct. We don't really need to see photos. It doesn't matter if all parts are original to the frame, or it is Mixed Parts Mongrel; the engraving destroyed all collector value. I think that you will be lucky to get $300-400 for it.

Please verify that the metal is engraved and not just the wood grips.
If so, the previous gentlemen are 100% correct.
