Winchester model 63

LA Bill
I have a very nice 1949 model 63. this is going to a new squirrel hunter (young family member) Receiver is drilled (4 holes) for a side mount.
For the life of me, I can not remember nor find the correct base.
I have an early steel El Paso 4x weaver to go on it.
Anyone know the mount number, I think it was a weaver mount, maybe a Redfield.

    Date of birth serial # 761xxx?? Just purchased and nervous about the date of mfg.

    Now,are you sure you don't have maybe 1 too many "x"'s on there?

    Assuming you do,and the ser# should be 761xx,your mod.63 was made in 1948.

    You are correct!! The number is 76127. The second number is 76127a. What is the signficate of the second number?? Thank you..LA Bill

    HHHHHHMMMMMMM.I can't answer that one.

    Maybe Only Winchesters or BertH. will be along in a while.They know a LOT more about this stuff than I do.

    Hello LA Bill,

    Your Model 63 has the serial number marked twice because it is a Takedown (the barrel assembly can readily be removed from the receiver/frame end of the rifle). Winchester stamped the serial number on each piece so that they could be positively mated back together after the final fitting & finishing process at the factory. The "A" at the end the serial number stamped on the receiver/frame end of the rifle merely signifies a minor change to the action during the production run.
