Which Surefire?

Got to "play" with an X200 mounted on a Glock, and was REALLY impressed. What do you owners suggest for a hand-held home-defense Surefire?

    Check out Streamlight Scorpion model, they are better than a surefire and cheaper. I got mine on Ebay for $30 and love it......

    Ive got the Surefire C-2 Centurian with the high output bulb. I think 120 lumens, and there is no dark spot in the middle of the beam. It is tough and bright and very well made.

    However, mine mostly sits by my bed until needed. If I was going to use it often -then I would go with a small streamlight rechargeable (cheaper to operate)I keep a large one in my truck.

    I keep a Surefire Z2 Combatlight handy. Upgrading to the 120 lumen bulb is worth the money, if you don't care about runtime. If you put this in someones face, they are essentially blinded. And there will be no "shooting at the light". Coming out of a dark environment, it feels like your retinas are frying. And the effect lasts a bit afterward. I find it hard to believe that I've got $120 in a flashlight, but the difference in these and the old standby Maglites is incredible. These aren't for looking under the hood or trying to find that extractor spring that went flying. Any household flashlight is fine for that. These are purpose built. Of course, this is only my overstated opinion....[:D]

    G2 Nitrolon is only $35, and you can get the upgraded light fixture for like 20 bucks to increase it to 120 lumens, run time is less though.

    Hand held I would go with the 6P or Z3 and upgrade the bulb to the 120 lumens. All depends on what technique you use while shooting with a handheld light.

    Weapon mounted light, forget the X200 LED model not worth the money. I am a die hard Surefire fan but the X200 does not put out enough bright light for defensive use. Check out the M3X from Insight Technology. It puts out 125 Lumens and has a run time of one hour on the two 3 volts. Me and my buddy tested it out at 25 yards and with 125 in your face there isnt much you can do to aquire a target. At 5 yards it actually HURTS to have it shined in your eyes. Got mine for 119.00 from Botach Tactical.

    I use the Streamlight Scorpion on ambulance calls; when the cops I work with see that bright beam, they stand back & say "You go first!" I no longer carry a Mag-light.

    I think any of the good brand names will work well. I bought a cheap one at BJ's, & it didn't last long.

    And, like tapwater says, they are great for things that go bump in the night.

    As far as a hand held defense light, I have a Surefire E2D Defender. It will temporarily blind an attacker. If the situation gets to be a hand to hand combat the ends of the E2D have strike bezels on each end to give you a better advantage.
    Retail price is about $105.00, I picked mine up from a guy on AR15.com for $85.00, best flashlight I own.

    surefire surefire surefire go with a surefire!,... thats all my plt.uses over here the small light and could blind stevie wonder. we use them all the time they are well worth the money, you wont be disapointed if you get one,.. if you are ill buy it from you. ive use the c2 over here for a while,.. it took a mortar to break that light,. now i have the g2n. and i love it

    E2D is a great personal light but it tears the crap out of pants! [:p]

    Buy the holster, you don't have to worry about it tearing up your pants.
