EARLY MODEL 88

I must be the only 88 collector reading this topic. The model 88 collector has undoubtedly noticed certain differences among guns side by side - especially those guns manufactured before 1957 , up to about serial #80,000. For instance, the recoil lug where it's inletted into the stock at the rear of the receiver originally had a "three bumped" shape , and then was modified to an entirely rounded shape. This change was made to eliminate a stock splitting problem caused by the original design.
So, if you have a three bumped tang , you have a 1955 or 1956. Gun in question is a pre '57 - 1956!

I've got a first year production (sn:17XXX = 1955)) and it has the rounded variation and not the 3-bump.....???????? 0 -

or one that had a cracked stock and was replaced by win. with a new type. 0 -
yeah , that almost has to be the reason.

Absolutely, change the old recoil block to the new and improved, and add the new stock. 0
