M1 Carbine barrel removal
Can anyone tell me the proper way to remove an M1 Carbine barrel? I have a barrel vise and have removed mauser actions, but need to know what's necessary without racking or twisting the carbine receiver. Pete

Carbine barrels aren't very tight. Mount the barreled receiver in a heavy duty vise with smooth jaws. Orient the receiver with barrel pointing up. The front receiver lug should be up against the bottom of the jaws. Snug up the vise and use a large Crescent wrench on the flat and round of the barrel. Use a pipe wrench if you're going to chuck the barrel. Watch for movement in the vise and snug up accordingly.
I've found a jerk works better than a steady pull.0
