which Scope crosshairs to use rifle & pistol

Is there any words of wisdom out there on the type of crosshairs to use for long range rifle plinking with a scope with a power up to about 12X?? One will be a .243 and the other used on a 22.

How about the difference between red dot and crosshairs for a pistol, is maginification a bad thing on pistol scopes?

    The ballistic plex is in a lot of use nowadays on rifles. They are handy if you don't like to click up for the range as I do. Sometime the crosshairs are a little to thick on some of them.
    A lot of magnification on a pistol scope will take a lot more getting used to than the red dots will. That is mostly a eye relief problem though, because the red dots don't have any.
    All my hunting pistols have 3X12 Burris's on them with the fine plex reticules, but I've been at it for a while, and generally have a lot of time to set up so it's not a problem for me anymore.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    Magnification isn't necessarily bad- it just shows how much you are shaking. The fact is that you're shaking even with a lower powered scope or iron sights, you just don't see it as much. Once you accustom yourself to seeing your wobbles, yu can focus on getting the shot off in the X ring. Since the distance one can use a handgun for in hunting is pretty much limited to 150 yards, having a scope over 2-4x costs too much on the things given up- field of view,etc, which is why for big game hunting usually only lower powered scopes are used.
