M-1 Carbine modification ??

Came across this in another forum concerning ww 2 M-1 carbines and it
dont ring true to me. Not without a disconnector modification. Not up
on M-1 carbines that much so putting this out to the experts. Quote
from the posting:: "One of the people he presumably interviewed (a lieutenant) claimed that he modified his M1 Carbine by "cutting the sear". This supposedly made it full automatic. Looking at the trigger mech of my M1 I think I can see how trimming back the sear might work (it wouldn't catch the hammer until the trigger was released), But I also think if you took slightly too much off it wouldn't catch at all. "

    Many semi=autos will "go auto" if certain parts are broken, worn, or inexpertly altered. I've seen this happen several times with Chinese SKS's. The M1 carbine was well designed & I've never seen this happen with one, but my guess is that it would be possible to alter a sear enough to make it "go auto"; the problem is, if this happened, there is no way to stop it firing until it runs out of ammo.

    I find the story you heard difficult to believe. Following WWII, any officer could easily have asked for a conversion to M2 (select fire) configuration at any level of ordinance. This would have taken no more than 10 minutes. Why risk being brought up on charges for making a dangerous modification to his carbine?

    I don't buy it. You need the M2 slide, trigger housing, sear, disconnector lever, disconnector, disconnector spring & plunger and selector switch and spring. You also need an M2 stock or a chisel to cut a relief for the selector switch.
