I shot trap with one a lot many years ago....It had beautiful wood and the special trap stock. IMO the 870 is a well designed well built shotgun. If cared for it will last a life time.

I also shot an 870 in trap grade for years in competition. The only problem I ever had with it was the ejector broke and had to be replace by Remington. Took about 3 weeks from the time that I mailed it to them until I had it back in my hot little hands. I personally think they are great.

trap guns come with pads which helps on the extreme recoil a bit. ive owned many over the years. very dependable. trap models have higher grade wood that makes them pretty in comparison to field grade guns. being its a pump, the loose forearm is sometimes a distraction, otherwise, it breaks targets just fine.

I shot the 870 Trap for over 10 years at ATA registered shoots. 300-600 targets a week, (practice plus registered), if you weren't shooting you were reloading. The only problem I had was broken firing pin return springs. Very easy to replace, 5 min. job, but there is nothing worse than pulling the trigger and nothing happens. I'm sure thats been taken care of by now. I haven't shoot trap in well over 15 years, maybe 20.

    If it fits, Buy it.

i own a REMINGTON 870 TC COMPETITION TRAP shotgun. mine was made in 1986 and has truly amazing wood. my particular gun came equiped with a gas-assisted recoil reducing system that fits internally within the magazine tube (you can only load two shells, one in the chamber, and one in the tube). they spared no expense on these guns, and they can hold there own in TRAP shoots against much more pricy guns.

i am a big fan, and would strongly recomend these guns.
    best regards, mike.

I have the 870TB Trap version, beautiful wood, similar to the TC only no screw in chokes. Excellent shooter...good fit.
