Vintage Browning scope ??

I saw an older almost perfect, Browning scope today for sale that came off a Browning high grade BAR (Grade IV). It is a 2 1/2-8X with a widefield type view. Externally it looks like an old Redfield. Did Browning ever make scopes? Could this be a Redfield product? After a brief discussion of price, the pawn shop agreed to take $50 including the rings. I pick it up tomorrow. What has been your experience with Browning scopes from the late 60's or 70's. I'm unsure of the age. By the way, the BAR was priced at $2,500 and was about 95%. What is one of these worth?

    Browning marketed scopes under their name, but did not make them. If no one else comes along, I can give you some info tonight when I get to the books.

    TWalker it appears you have a good eye. The Browning scopes, according to Strobels book, were reportedly made by Redfield and marketed under the Browning name. They were built between 1965 and 1976. Available in 2.75x, 4x, 6x, 2-7x and 3-9x, plus a hig-grade 4x for rimfires. Crosshairs standard, but post and crosshair or dot coulld be had on all but the rimfire scope. Range finder reticle available in the three single power scopes 2.75x to 6x. Presumably the quality was up to Redfield standards of the day. The scope you mention is not shown among the ones marketed. Values on the ones listed above range from $50-$150 depending upon scope and condition. I would say you made a fair buy for a decent scope of those years. I have a Redfield from the late 80's with rangefinder and it is a quality scope, though not the equal of the better scopes today. Can't help on the BAR.
