Stevens 22-410

I recently recieved an heirloom. It is a Stevens 22-410, 22 long rifle, Proof tested 410 bore , 3 inch chamber. I believe it is with the Tenite forend and stock.
I have some questions.

Where or how can I determine the age of this rifle? I have found patent #'s but no dates.

The stock is a little worst for wear. would it be better to replace the Tenite with walnut or try to locate a tenite replacement stock?

This rifle has been neglected for years. Is there something I can use to recondition the barrel.
I have never owned a gun before but would like to recondition this to be displayed, and can use a little advice.

    I picked one of these up Saturday at a gun show.Not exactly a cream puff,looks like it's been "behind the seat" for a long time.Not all that bad,mostly just dirty and should clean up pretty well and is good and tight.

    My question is;When did Stevens start using the "Tenite" stock?
    This one has the walnut stock,so knowing this would help me narrow down it's age a bit.

    Hello Bobby: Well that's a good question. I have the sister gun the Md 240. The 22-410 was made from 1938 to 1950, the Md 240 from 1940-49. Since the Md 240 only came with Tenite stocks, my best guess would be around 1940, they switched to tenite on the 22-410. Since they both had the same butt stock. Regards Dave

    I had one of those a few years back.Picked it up at a garage sale for about$150.My book says the Tenite stock guns were made from 1940 to 1949.

    I have a Stevens 240 O/U 410. I found out they made the Tenite stock for Steven guns during WW2, 1941 to 1946. They needed the wood for the rifles they use in the War. How true this is, I don't know. Every so often you run across these shotguns. I pick up a Model 240 410 O/U barrel with a vent rib installed on it, 90-95% condition on Ebay. A wood stock for a Model 24 just was sold on Ebay for $50.+. It was made by Fajen, an old but very good stock maker.
