My AR-10 short cycle's can you tell me what it might be. Doesn't fully
eject a round before tries to put an other one in.

I'm not sure just how identical the AR-10 system is to the AR-15. If my AR-15 short cycles it is usually a cleaning/lubing problem, the bolt mostly. In extreem cases I supose it could be the gas line from the front sight to the bolt has gotten too crudded up, but that would take some really foul ammo to deposite enough to impede function. 0 -

What ammo are you using? Unlike 223, there is a lot of really crappy 308 surplus floating arround out there. The AR-10 lacks the gas adjustments that FAL's have, so it becomes a bigger problem.

The year before I had Australian ammo with no problems I'm leaning toward this as a possible problem. [:)]0 -
The Portugeese ammo is of good quality. The only problem I have had with it is hard primers. Try a box of US made FMJ, just to see. I would bet that there is an obstruction in the gas tube or port.

Fires one round then tries to load a nether one, but hasn't fully

Yah thats a double feed. Check your gas rings on the bolt. You should have 3 rings and if they are lined up to where the lil cut outs are close to each other that will cause you double feeds. Let me know if those works out for you. 0 -
I have 3 AR-10's and several AR-15's and one problem that is often overlooked is the copper fouling in the gas system. Some brands of ammo are worse than others, but all of them will clog up the works eventually. The real problem with the Armalite system is that it craps where it eats. The gas system dumps everything back into the action and unless you keep it clean, the rifle will tend to operate sluggishly and you end up with just the malfunction you described. I know this from shooting thousands of rounds through M-4's on full auto. If the gas system is clogged, the cyclic rate gradually drops off. The Army cure is to replace the gas tube, but that is a little drastic in my opinion.
Most people only consider the carbon fouling, but if you think about it, in a centerfire rifle, anywhere there is carbon fouling, there will also be copper fouling and any other products of combustion.
The best reccomendation I can give you is what worked for me. Get yourself a bottle of Sweets or any agressive copper solvent and some super long pipe cleaners from Brownells or a hobby craft store. Start with the gas tube and give it a good hose down with the copper solvent. You will be FLOORED at how much green copper fouling comes off on the pipe cleaner.You will wonder how any gas ever got through at all. Next, move on to the bolt and bolt carrier. Every surface on the inside of these parts needs a good soaking in sweets, especially the botton inside of the bolt carrier where the gas enters from the carrier key. After you are done I'll bet the problem goes away. If not then you may have a more serious problem like bad mags or a bad extractor.

mine did the same as you described with the Portugeese ammo also I think it was the ammo cinsitancy it would fall 2 - 3 feet short at distant targets when other would be dead on
