belOMO/belOMA russian optics opinions needed.
Ok guys,..many of you know my affection/affliction for top end optics especially of the tactical persuasion[8D]. Now for my question,..
research on the belOMO/belOMA optics yields VERY LITTLE technical info. I ran into some guy saying he had a few of these in 6x42 with 30mm tubes and the german post reticles. He said he would part with them for cheap,..so after his glowing reference on how clear the glass was and blah blah blah, I decided to check them out. All I get is minuscule little bits about how it is made in the original USSR plant in Minsk that made their sniper scopes and how the factory is advancved and labor is cheap (thus cheap prices). Soooooooo,..can anyone give me any ideas or experiences with these optics and let me know how they perform and hold zero? HOW GOOD IS THE GLASS!!!!! How doe the turrets feel? etc

Dale,..they cost next to nothing. I was thinking of throwing one on a woods gun or a case slinger just to see how they would stand up to even 300yds max (and I been wanting to try a REAL german post). I sent you an e-mail,..I'll send another one with a link[;)]

Those guys know their optics and can give you more info on the scope. If you have not been to that site you have to check it out. The entire thing is dedicated to long range tactical marksmanship. Good group of guys also.
By the way, I finally got my chrono and narrowed it down to Varget and RE15 like you suggested, hopefully I will find the final load tomorrow. Last time out I shot a lil over 1/4" 3 shot group, then the 4th and 5th shot moved it out to a lil under 3/4"
Dumped the stock on the savage and got me the Choate Varmit stock, I actually am really comfy with it. Would rather have the A5 but that is a lil out of the budget right now.

ifin ya wouldn't mind,..ask over there and see what they come up with. I beleive it is the company which manufactures the original lit reticle, ranging scopes that were issued for the Draganov sniper rifles. The ones that are always in the surplus magazines,..but this one I am looking at is a straight 6x with a 30MM tube and a REAL german post reticle (kind of thought of putting it on an old mauser project I have, so as to be authenic with the reticle and the rifle) If it has decent glass and the adjustments will hold up to some clicking,..I may try one out. I cannot comment on their commercial optics but their military products are of good quality. Here is my own POSP 6X42 scope (which does not have the illuminated reticle) shown beside my Romanian AKM. I was given this scope while I was in Poland (visas to Belarus are very difficult to obtain) and brought it home with me several years ago and it has held up very well. The design is somewhat old fashioned, the adjustments are not as percise as something from Japan, much less Germany or Austria, the apprearence is nothing to write home about, and the image does not shift with the reticle. By that I mean that when you adjust the scope left, right, down or up only the reticle will move and the image will not shift along with it so you will sometimes find the cross hairs off centered, which unusual but not a major crisis. In short the scope is okay for an AK, which is hardly a percission shooting machine, but I would not wnat to put it on any rifle where accuracy was deemed to be very important.

I have one of these mounted on a Mosin Nagant M-44.
Not exactly what you were describing but evidently from the same family. This is an 8x42 POSP with illuminated reticle, built in bullet-drop compensator, and rangefinding. Even with all this stuff, it is not an expensive scope. This is supposed to be the current issue Russian sniper scope. I have had the scope in the photo for about 2 years. I would describe it as like most of the Soviet equipment from the Cold War, not sophisticated, not precise, but rugged and reliable. This scope does an adequate job when it comes to accuracy (ammunition must be considered too) and I have not had to re-zero. Basically, no problems.
The first POSP that I purchased had to be returned because the IR did not function. It was replaced by the above and so far no problems.

I agree with heavyiron's review. I also have the 8x42 POSP with illuminated reticle, built in bullet-drop compensator, and rangefinder.
I use it on a Russian AK .308 caliber and it works fine. Yes, it does hold zero. Most of the other scopes I have had did not hold zero. I think it is a good scope for the money. I am happy with it.
