how to move 1350 lb. gun safe??
I am looking at buying heritage tradition safe. It is 56" wide, 72" tall and 1350 lbs. I had an extra column put under the floor when we built the house to support the weight of the safe. But now how do I move it. Most of the people that move safe don't want to mess with it. I need to go across tile, hardwood and carpet. Has anyone done this and how.

a hand truck like used for ice boxes and or an engine block crane. look on top of your safe. see that threaded hole? thats where you put the eyelet to attach the hook and chain. 0 -
I have moved several using only a couple of golf balls. Tilt safe and place one under and roll till ball is on other side. If safe cannot be rotated, remove ball, tilt again, place ball under in direction you are going & repeat. 0 -
Refrigerator dolly ,six friends {big friends},and plywood ,lay a few pieces down at a time {1 peice cut lengthwise should do,then move the back piece to the front ,and repeat
Make sure you get a hard wheel dolly ,most pneumatic tires will not support the weight ,you mention the width and height ,but not depth ,most are only 30 inches max ,so you will have a heck of a time getting on a dolly , then up in the air ,if your going up stairs your in for a treat ,and possible injury ,I have kicked around the thought of having a friends tow truck with a boom ,put one up on my balcony so I can get it in my second story gun room

I've seen the golf ball method and it works pretty good.
Another is to use pieces of pvc pipe(3/4"-1")or steel pipe if your not too worried about marring the floor.
Shouldn't be much to it w/a case of beer and a couple of big strong friends.

My safe is right at the same weight, I've moved mine once and getting ready to move it again. I put down sheets of plywood(2-3) just keep placing them in front of the safe as you move along. Golf balls placed under the safe work very well or a couple lengths of pipe as mentioned in earlier posts. The plywood will let you move it across any type of floor surface with no damage to the floor. The more help the better.

When I bought my Treadlok safe several years ago, the store I bought it from sent one man to deliver the safe. He backed his pick-up truck up to the front steps, He and I slide the skid with the safe off the truck onto the front porch(concrete) and up to the front door(about 8 feet). We tilted the safe enough to unbolt it from the skid. He pulled out a sheet of fairly thick plastic sheet about 4 feet square and laid it on the carpet at the door entrance. We tilted the safe again and slid it off the skid and thru the front door onto the plastic sheet and by tilting the safe 2 or 3 times centered it onto the plastic sheet. Picked up the end of the plastic sheet that was in the direction we were going and slid the safe thru the living room, down the hallway, and into the den where I wanted it. Piece of cake. It slid on that plastic across the carpet like it was on rollers. 0 -
You might want to look at the Zanotti Armor safe. It is made of 6 pieces that fit together.

Sounds like a sheet of silicone, a nabor at our caben has a few that he pulls his pontoon out onto stuff is slick as ice. Not to easy to get thow nor cheep.0 -

My safe is about 1750lbs empty. I had to move that dyam thing a few months ago.
This is how I moved mine.
First lay down some cardboard from where the safe is to where you want to move it. Then do the same with some 3/4" plywood. The cardboard will give you a lil buffer between the plywood and your carpet, wood floors or tile.
You will then need like a big pry bar so you can lift up one side of the safe.
Next get some 1" to 1.5" pipe cut to the width of your safe, need about 6 to 8 of them. If you can get your hands on aluminum pipe those work best. 1/4" thick wall supported my beast.
Once you prop your safe up with the pry bar and start sliding the pipes under the safe. Once you get the safe off the ground onto the pipes you can just roll it along, prolly 4 to 5 people to do it safely.
If you get aluminum pipe you can turn the safe different angles it should slide pretty easy on them.
Disclaimer: This is how I moved my safe and moving anything that weighs as much as 3/4ton is dangerous. Be safe and take your time.0 -
I have one of the Zanottis and put it in my house by myself...It is there 6'X 30"X 25"...The only problem is they do not come with fire protection....
