Here's a link to the CMP website's inspection process, that may help explain what you want to know.

Throat Erosion is a measurement of the bore just forward of the chamber. It is worn away by bullets fired & hot gases. A TE gauge measures this wear starting with a nominal .3000 inches for a new barrel reading as .0000", or TE=0. In real life, new barrels often measure 1.0-2.0. So, a TE measurement of .3002" is described as TE=2.0. Although safe (& sometimes accurate) up to TE=10.0, the US military replaces barrels at TE=5.0.

Muzzle wear is measured with a similar gauge. Most muzzle wear is caused by improper cleaning. A new barrel will be about MW=1.0; up to 2.0 or 2.5, accuracy will be acceptable. Beyond 3.0, don't expect much, as bullet control will be lost as it nears the muzzle.

Reminds me of stopping at CMP north store; among the rack of Greek Garands I found one with a tag ME 1 TE 1 and with all matching HRA parts. And it looked BAD. Rack grade, $295. Well worth it, proves that going through the rack of them is worth it if you can.
