Is T/C Encore the gun for me?

I had posted this earlier, but the forums crashed and I could not find the topic anymore. I like the simplicity of the single shot and the versatility of multiple barrels. My question is "Is this gun reliable, accurate, well made, sturdy, etc..." I just want your opinions on this gun, wheter they be good or bad. The caliber I am specificaly looking at is the .270. Please post your opinions.

    I have a contender (encore's little brother). I love it. The encore is a more stout version to use up to at least a .300 winmag. I also use a Ruger #1 in that cal., but plan to get an encore 22-250 or 25-06. The encore is less expensive and allows for the barrel swap for less than half the price of a new rifle. Get the .270 and save up for another cal. and don't feel guilty. That's why I have 4 barrels for my contender.

    Encore's are very well made, top of the line warranty, and the company has super customer service.

    I've been shooting/collecting Thompson Contenders since 1968, and I also have both Encore and G2 frames (we won't even get into the blackpowder stuff). However I do have one lament, and that is the Encore does not have an adjustable trigger pull weight. All those years of Contenders kinda spoiled me.

    But if you want to shoot the higher pressure calibers/loads then I think you'll be satisfied with an Encore.

    If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

    If you want a cheaper single-shot look at the H&R line of Handi-rifles. Not as many calibers available as the Encore but enough to cover squirrels and varmints all the way up to buffalo. Missing calibers like the 777 MAg. and .338. If deer is all you are after, It looks good. Barrels are around 120$ too.

    Branwheat see my post. Not the best looking single-shot, neither are the Encores, in my opinion. Heck of a lot cheaper than an Encore or Contender though.

    Thanks Bill. I took a look at the H&R. I still like the looks of the Encore better, I think its the butt stock that I like.

    comparing a NEF or H&R to the Encore is like trying to compare a Rossi Revolver to a S&W or Colt , they just don't stack up [;)] yes they are cheaper and that is just what you are getting ,

    buy the Encore its well worth the money and will keep its value , just look at what used Encores are selling for darn near what new ones are , then look at what used H&R's are selling for pennies on the dollar ,, but the encore and you'll be happy you did [:D]

    Hello 007,I have four Encores and am satisfied with every one of them.I also have a couple Contenders with extra barrels with both.They are easy to carry and all shoot very well.Good luck on your purchase should you choose one of them,Bob.

    I have both Encore and Handi-Rifle.The H&R is a excellant rifle and a real bargin for the money,but the Encore is just a better quality firearm.I agree with everyone else,you get what you pay for.

    If you don't care to change out barrels and can spend a bit more, the ruger #1 is a fine rifle. The falling block action is easier to load than the break breach of the encore.
