rebarreling a remington 700 bdl .243

I have a .243 and was wanting to rebarrel it to something else? What are my caliber choices for that action and what kind of cost am I looking at? Any help would be appreciated.

    you have several easy choices and some others with alittle work ...no brainers are 260, 7mm/08 308 and 358 these are all your 243 necked up or down...22/250 and 257 roberts may also work with out any bolt face or magazine work , but am not a gunsmith so cant say for sure...a used factory barrel or new take off can be had for 15-50 bucks...barrels from makers like shilen or kreiger can run you up to 300....by the time you chamber , headspace finish and mount your barrel( assuming it is done by a gun smith on a new barrel) the bill will exceed the price of buying another rifle in the caliber you prefer, so you might want to just trade this towards another caliber or just keep it and flat out buy another gun !

    You can rebarrel your rifle to everything from a 22/250 up to a 30/06. without changing the bolt face. Magnum calibers need a larger bolt face, and the smaller calibers need a smaller one. Opening or closing the bolt faces can run into a little money. A top grade barrel can run over $400 just for a blank!
    A lot of new take off barrels are available from online sources that cost from $40.00 and up..and sometime a whole lot less. If you can do the work of making sure the headspace is correct, the cost will not be to bad. If you need a smith to do the work you are going to spend around $100.00 plus the barrel cost.

    I'm not a gunsmith but it seems like you might want to stick with another short action round, the magazine might not take longer action calibers. As far as what caliber, just decide what you will be using it for then ask for input on what calibers work best on that, prepare for the flood. Lots of options. Keeping it and buying a new rifle isn't a bad idea either.
