Reloading Steelshot

PSFD DONKEY
I have been reloading 12ga. lead shells on a MEC sizemaster for a few months now. Would like to load steel for hunting, I can't seem to find a decent steel load in my Loadbook. I don't want to buy the steel conversion kit and charge bars if I can't find a good load.

    Iconoclast has given you a great site to look into. There's no screwing around with steel. There is a load manual especially for steel only and only steel components are to be used and last I looked MEC was the only source for most of the shot, wads,ect. This is not a matter of replacing lead with steel shot. There is little room for error, know of one guy who bent the reciever of both his and his brother's Remington SP10 with his reloads which I suspect were steel shot in lead components. I think MEC even pulled the stuff off the market for a while a couple years back and I don't know of any manufacturer that warrantees their gun with steel reloads. You might be better off with an off season (read now) price and/or case price on factory loads. Wally World usually sells their steel loads for half about the end of the year and others might do likewise.

    The thought of shooting non-compressable steel through a hole that is decreasing in size long ago convinced me to give-up waterfowl hunting until a replacement came along. The last goose tht I shot or even shot-at was about 25 years ago. Might take it back up again with some of the maleable non-toxics, but waiting for unbiased reports.

    I've been shooting remington heavy-shot a little bit. WOW, this stuff is brutal on turkeys. I gave up duck hunting because I'm not impressed with steel shot. I know there is other non-toxic shot on the market,but I haven't been real pleased with any of it. The set back to the heavy-shot is the price. A box of 10 in the store is around $20 dependiing on where you shop, it is expensive to reload also but a little bit easier on the wallet. Buy 1 box to try out, I think you'll like it.

    Hevi-shot is great,I have seen it in bulk for reloading
    I do alot of hunting ,and almost never shoot more than 2-3 boxs
    of steel shells,I always have some left for next year
    Try the new federal in red box,patterns great in my gun
    Bizmuth is what I shoot out of my older guns(no steel)

    Thanks for the info. on the web site, Iconoclast after looking at their web site I feel I will be doing some business with them.

    Also I love to duck hunt, Bismuth and tungsten are legal for hunting here arre they better for my gun barrels.
