Most accurate low cost 30-06
Hello all. I've read a little about the Savage and people gave it really good review on accuracy.(.5 groups) But the guns they were talking about were 270 and lower. I am interested in a new bolt action 30-06 for next season and don't want buy the wrong thing. I've heard a little good about the Rem 710 to. Has anyone had any experience in these or any gun in the $500 or below range? Not looking for the package deals either, as I want to get a bit better scope for it. Thanks in advance for the input.

I haven't heard much on the new Mossberg,but if it's anything like all the other Mossy's,it's bound to be an excellent shooter for the money.$244 at Wally World last time I looked.

710 is crap, basically a cheap version of the 700.
Best value for the money is a Howa M1500. Surprisingly accurate and pretty cheap. They're basically Weatherby rifles with the Howa name slapped on them. My second choice would be a CZ 550, which is also a great value for the money. Next after that would probably be a Remington 700BDL (which is what I currently have; would've gotten one of the previous two had they been available at the time, but I got an absolute steal on my BDL anyway), then a Winchester Mod. 70.
IIRC, Gun Tests magazine did a comparison with several rifles, but in a different caliber, and the Howa 1500 came out on top in the accuracy department and was top rifle overall.0 -
You do not want a 710.But you should be able to find a nice used model 700 adl in 30-06 quite reasonable.Just as accurate as a Savage and a nice fully adjustable trigger. 0 -
I am very impressed with my new Tikka T3! Great feel and even better accuracy. I was a dedicated Browning man until this year. The Tikka shoots as good as my A-Bolt! I may be changing my tune now.
My exierence with a 710 was terrible! Bolt was rough, trigger was bad, safety was loud and stiff, and it never shot better than a 1.25" group. I do know some out there who are happy with their's, but they have not shot a better rifles.

I own a Savage 112 in 300RUM I paid about 450.00 plus the scope sling and all that stuff. The fit and finish is below standard in respect to some of the other stuff out there but all of that is laid to the side after five shots on the bags at 100yds. All in all it a great gun for the money and ive heard that they have a better trigger set up now. 0 -
Springfield 1903A3 2 grove barrel...with sporter stock S&K no drill scope mount and a 4X scope you should have less than 350 bucks in it. Mine shoots 1" groups with several different bullets and loads. 0 -
