    Probably your only recourse would be to dig up some of the early post W W II editions of "Small Arms of the World" by Smith. My guess would be anywhere between the reprint of the original that dates to 1944 up to the 3rd from the 1950's. Although the 38A with the ventilated barrel jacket was superseded during the war, simplified versions ( 38/42, 38/43, 38/49 ) were made until the 60's.
