S&W Commemorative Value

I have a cased S&W Model 26 Georgia State Patrol 50 Year Commemorative that is unfired. It is in the original Colt.45 that GSP used then. Has gold inlay on barrel with the dates and also inlay on frame. Any idea of the value ???

    That model number doesn't sound right; you might want to re-check it.

    In any case, "special order" guns such as this are usually difficult to sell at any premium over the price of a similar "plain" gun in similar condition.

    The following is copied from Standard Catalog ofr Smith & Wesson, Second Edition:

    MODEL 26: THE 1950 MODEL .45 TARGET LIGHT BARREL
    Caliber .45 ACP, introduced Feb. 1950, double action revolver built on the square-butt N target frame with five screws. 6-1/2-inch ribbed tapered barrel, (4-inch and 5-inch rare), short throw hammer, shrouded extractor rod, .400" checked semi-target hammer, .265" grooved trigger, early production has a six-groove backstrap and forestrap later changed to 10-groove, blue finish, marked ".45 CAL MODEL 1950", six-shot fluted cylinder with a nominal length of 1.55", 1/10-inch or 1/8-inch Partridge front sight with micrometer click rear sight, checkered walnut Magna-style stocks with S&W medallions and diamond inserts. Serial number range S76212 to S211000 with 2,768 manufactured circa 1950-1960; with Georgia Commemorative 26-1s made in 1988-1989.

    ?Mod. 26-1 Georgia State Patrol Commemorative: Special production for Georgia State Highway Patrol, with lanyard ring, 5" tapered barrel with rib, chambered in .45 Colt with a nominal cylinder length of 1.67", with 1/8" Baughman front sight, adjustable Micrometer click rear sight, three-letter serial prefix of BBYOxxx, "1937 Georgia State Patrol 1987." Not caliber marked, approximately 40 were available outside the contract without the commemorative markings. Blue finish only. Smooth rosewood grips, marked 26-1. 800 manufactured. 40 are contract overrun. Product code 100920 B AS 5" .45 Colt. Produced circa 1988-1989.
