Difference between Remington 48 and 11-48
Can someone explain to me the difference in the Remington model 48 and the 11-48? I have three model 48's...12, 16, and 20ga. Now, I'm thinking about trying to get all of the 11-48's and was wondering about the differences (other than the fact that the 11-48 was also made in 28 and 410).

Your correct. The 11-48's are the same as the 48's except they added the 28ga and 410 to the line of 11-48's.
The 11-48's were made from 1949 to 1968. Remington made about 425,000 of them.

off the top of my head, it has something to do with grips caps and longitudal lines on the forearms instead of checking, a far as differences. also too, the 11-48 wasnt offered in high grade configurations. 0 -
I also seem to remember that the 48's were 3-shot and the 11-48's were 5-shot. Is that right??

The 11-48A came in a 4 shot and a 5 shot model
also the higher grade was a 5 shot 11-48B special grade
Tournament grade was the 11-48D
Premier grade was 11-48F
the 48 was a 3 shot made 1949-59
11-48 about 10 years longer

The gun in question evolved into two models; the Sportsman '48 and the 11-48. The 11-48 had a four round magazine, the Sportsman '48 magazine held only two rounds due to three dimples in the tube which stopped the follower short of full tube travel. Otherwise the two models were nearly identical. The 28 ga. and .410 were somewhat different as you have noted.

Man...I've got to find one of those 11-48's in 410!!! I saw one at the Nashville Gun Show last weekend, but it was $450. Really don't want to pay THAT much for one.

450 is a good price. ive had numerous 410 11-48's. i just got sick of the clang clang everytime it recoiled. and give it time, that wood cracks all the time too. they point and pattern well. i took a skeet 410 out and went 25 straight with it one time.
