you don't say which mountain rifle you have but they go something like this--- for excellnet condition by the book values-- all are model 700 Mountain Rifle
700 blue with walnut stock $ 350 --
700 KS with Kevlar stock $700
700 DM - standard rifle with detachable mag $$425
700 Stainless Synthetic $400
700 LSS _ Laminated stock $$5500 -
thanks for the info 'gskyhawk'. another question...
i didn't buy the mountain rifle new, so, without the box, or any info on it, i knew very little about it. i always assumed it was the 'mountain rifle, since that is the only Model 700 i could find that came in .280. Now that i have researched a little more, i found this on the remington website:
http://www.remington.com/firearms/centerfire/700clpst.htm
so, according to the table, the .280 Classic was released in 1997. does that mean it has been made every year since then? do all of these have the hinged floorplate as well? because the mountain rifle has a detachable magazine, and mine has the hinged.0 -
The 280 classic was only made for 1 year. The mountain rifle in 280 is available with detachable mag or with hinged floorplate. 0 -
All 280 classics have the hinged floorplate. 0 -

Typically the "Mountain" Rifle has a smaller profile, lighter weight, thinner barrel, made for carrying up a mountain on your back. 0 -
