History of my Colt 1911

I have owned an original Government issued Colt Model 1911 since the mid-60's. It is in excellent condition (my opinion). I have obtained limited information about it on the web---date of manufacture (1918), etc.; however, how can I trace the actual history, especially the military history, of this weapon? I assume I would start with Colt.

Also, what is the "ballpark" value of this Colt?

  My reference shows that Colt made over 381,00, Model 1911's in 1918. There is no way, in "MY OPINION" that your going to trace the provanance of your pistol,( prior to you obtaining it ), at this late date.
  
  Value would depend on condition and originallity, post some quality pictures and we would be better able to give you an idea of it's value.

  You may be able to find the original delivery location of your pistol from the Springfield Research Service:

  If they have information on it, they will send you documentation at a nominal cost.
  
  Other than that, there are no existing records for your pistol.
  
  Value is in the "ballpark" of $300-$3,000.
