old remington pistol
Does anyone have any info about an old remington pistol that has stamped on the top of the barrel E Remington & Sons. Ilion N.Y. Pat W.S. Smoot Oct 21 1873. It's a 5 shot revolver of unknown caliber and is still in operating order and I would say it's in pretty good condition for it's age. We are trying to locate a digital camera so I can try to post a pic.

It sounds like you have a .30 cal RF No 1 Model which ranges in value from $250 poor to $1500 good for nickel finish and +50% for blued finish.
There are four different models ranging in value but the No.1 is the most desirable.
A photo will confirm the model.0 -
If you have no luck with the pictures, go to your local library and ask if they have a copy of "Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms". It's the basic reference text for collectors of American antique guns. It has a section on Remington-Smoot Revolvers with pictures and prices. It will put you in the ballpark with your Smoot.

Thanks for the help folks, this was something that my g/f picked up at an auction over the weekend and I didn't have a book that showed anything about it. 0
