Class 3 question.

I am purchasing a 22 conversion for a registered full auto. Does the lower it goes in need registered with Uncle Sam with the new caliber? I see guns advertised in multible calibers..9mm.45..22.. IF so what is needed? Thanks.

    Trying to add calibers to a form4 after the fact, is nearly impossible.

    The way I have done is to use a form5320?? (Request for Interstate Transportaion of a Registered restricted Firearm) for a period of one full year for use in another state (Example: Knob Creek).

    All of my 5320's are for a full year, less hassle.

    On the 5320 list all the calibers that you will be using with the lower.

    Then keep a copy of the 5320 with your form4.

    The atf really does not care about the caliber uppers that your using as long as its .50bmg & lower. Their main concern is the registered lower, which is the controlled part, making it a machinegun.

    Now when & if you sell the package. On the new form4, to the new owner, then you can add the multi calibers.

    I have traveled all across the US with C3 stuff some with multi-caliber uppers, while the form4 shows only one caliber, and have never had a problem.

    Yes, even at the airport!, They have no ideal what a Form4 or 5320 is!

    does the form have to be renewed every year then or is it permanent with the lower?

    The maximum that I have ever been allowed on a 5320 by the ATF is a full year.
    I renew my 5320's every year for Flordia, Georgia, Texas, and Knob Creek, whenever I decide to go.
    Best bet is to call BATF Branch, and get the info directly from the horses mouth per se.
    I have owned C3's for over 20yrs, and have never worried or been hassled about the multi caliber deal.
