INFO ON .17 HMR

HELLO OUT THERE... I AM INTERESTED IN BUYING A RIFLE CHAMBERED IN THE NEW .17 HMR. IT IS OFFERED IN THE 'STANDARD' .17 AND THE NEW .17 'MACH II' VERSION. CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME THE DIFFERENCE?

  The .17HMR is based on the .22 Magnum round which is necked down to .17 caliber and fires a 17 or 20 grain bullet.
  
  The .17 Mach II is a newer cartridge that was just released this fall and is based on a .22 long rifle cartridge necked down to the .17 caliber and fires a 17 grain bullet.
  
  Muzzle velocity of the .17 HMR is about 2550 fps and the .17 Mach II is about 2000 fps.
  
  Hope this helps. I would advise you use the search funtion on this forum as much has been written about these two cartridges in the recent past including the ballistics for both.
