12 gauge double barrel shotgun
I have old 12 ga dbl barrel shotgun. No stock, just barrels. Trying to identify. There is the oval seal with initials in it at the rec end of the barrel and on the under side of the barrel
"AJ" stamped on bottom of one barrel
"A" stamped on bottom of other barrel
" 37759" stamped kind of crooked and odd spaced in the metal between the barrels.
" 1723" crookedly stamped on bottom of barrel near the end in middle between barrels...
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Debra

ELG inside the oval... Belgian.

Alot of makers had their barrels produced in Belgium, and the mated to their own back actions around this time. That ELG in oval should also have a crown above it if it is indeed a Liege gun. Saw a Trojus made shotgun this weekend (old...about 1880 I believe) that the guy SWORE was handed down through the family from relatives in Denmark, but the barrels were clearly stamped ELG. The reciever was Danish, but the barrels...pure Belgian all the way!

Not all Belguim Proofed Barrels carried the Oval with a Crown or Star...It was a Voluntary proof, and was introduced to keep abreast of the German proof law of 1891..Up until then it was just an oval with the letters E over LG in the center.....This is from G.Wirnswberger's Standard Directory of Proof Marks.............
