I bought a Model 12 that is supposed to be a trap model. It is not marked trap. I found out that it was made in 1972. Does anyone know how to identify a trap model? Is the serial number put on the stock or forearm? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello draginfish: When Winchester reintroduced the Md 12 in 1972, (the "Y"s) the only way you could tell if you didn't have the box was the butt stock. As gunnut said the Trap version had a Monte Carlo butt Stock or a High comb straight stock. The Field version, had the typical stock drop, like the Skeet gun. They all came with the "Duck bill" receiver ramp, the Field, Skeet, Trap and Pigeon grades. Regards Dave
