P-14 to 45/70

A friend has had a local gunsmith to rebarrel a P-14 to 45-70. No problems with opening bolt face and chamber/barrel installation. Has it drilled and tapped and scope installed but unable to get it to feed from magazine. Any suggestions ???

  Just keep working the bottom of the receiver, opening it up a little at a time until it feeds properly. Trial-and-error and a lot of time and patience is the only way.

  Ditto on "trial and error, time and patience".
  
  I open the front of the rails, about half way back so that as the bullet is almost up the ramp, the round pops up under the extractor and into the bolt face.
  You must make sure that the rim of the brass slides up from the bottom and centers in the bolt face. It requires some tricky hand work of that lower part of the thin rim, the part below the center line of the face.
  
  You may have to take a little off the edge of the extractor so the rim will slide up without much drag or tension. Too much drag and the round won't jump into place.
  
  Don't take off too much metal at a time. You can't put it back.
  Easily, that is.
